About KrioRus

KrioRus is the first cryonics company outside the United States and is providing affordable cryonics services. It is located in Moscow. It was established in 2006 by a group of Russian cryonics enthusiasts after a cryosuspension in September 2005.

History

Russian cryonicists wanted to create a local company for more than a decade. Preparatory work on KrioRus started in 2005. We selected the location for the storage in January 2006, picking a small village of Alabushevo right outside of Moscow. In March we moved the equipment in and tested our first 250l dewar. On April 24 and 28 we moved two Russian patients who were stored in dry ice from 2003 and 2005 into permanent storage. On May 3, 2006 KrioRus was registered as a limited liability company. Since then the company has performed 6 additional cryonic suspensions in Moscow and assisted in 3 suspensions in other regions. Additionally a dog was suspended in 2008 and a cat in 2009, allowing us to test better procedures. For perfusion we currently use glycerol-based BPS-7 (brain preservation solution) cryoprotectant. The operation is done by the KrioRus specialists.

Depending on the location of our patient and available time we would co-operate with local doctors or morticians. Our specialists can travel anywhere in Russia, CIS or EU on short notice (we handled one human case in Estonia and have assisted in a pet cryopreservation in Croatia). We expect to be able to handle most legal and logistical complications, especially if the client has signed up in advance.

Storage

Our storage facilities are in the Moscow region in a buildings owned by one of the co-founders. External renovations were done in spring 2008, additional repairs and renovations are under way. There are two plants producing liquid gases nearby. For neuro patients we use a 250-liter dewar, where their brains are stored in liquid nitrogen. Full-body patients are stored in custom-built dewars and a large cryostat is currently under construction. Another dewar for 3 people was recently delivered to the storage facilities and is now being prepared for the commissioning.

In May 2006 we announced the opening of KrioRus. Since then the company has received constant coverage in the media. It started with a cover story in "Komsomolskaya Pravda", the largest Russian newspaper and continued with countless TV, radio, print and online stories. International media, from China to Chile, has covered KrioRus as well. Watch a report by Sky News (UK), read an article Frozen Brains Awaiting Resurrection Day in Storage in The St. Petersburg Times.

Strategy

For the first years the company focus has been on providing reliable and affordable cryonics services throughout Russia and in Europe. We can minimize the cost of cryonics by doing neurosuspension (which is expensive at Alcor and not offered by Cryonics Institute) with the price being 10000 USD for the brain cryopreservation. We can also perform a whole-body suspension (price is 30000 USD).

In the near future we will work to develop our capabilities further. We plan to open a cryonics research laboratory, where our specialists can be trained and animal research can be conducted to perfect the cryopreservation techniques. We are also willing to help cryonics activists everywhere to set up local cryonics organisations. We want our company to be the first among many new providers of affordable cryonics services, helping to make cryosuspension a default choice.
